1ST South Zeal Scout Group marked its achievements at a recent awards ceremony as well as celebrating the retirement of their scout leaders Stuart and Nicki Glanville.
Ruth Frangleton and Luke Skilton both received their chief scout gold award at the evening while cubs and leaders were given awards for their contribution to the District Cub Camp in Dunsford last month.
Stuart and Nicki were presented with the ultimate honour, honorary title Laird and Lady of Chaol Glen, along with a memory book of memories and photographs from the last ten years.
The dedicated couple have run the troop for nearly a decade, helping the young people in their care grow through the movement.
They have also organised many camps and Jamborees with Scoutfest, Iceland, Switzerland and the World Jamboreee in Japan as well as local camps such as Devon Aerocamp, Hurdlestone orienteering challenge, wild camping on Dartmoor, shooting and archery camps and traditional shelter building camps.
As well as camping, the scouts have learned to sail, shoot, fly, gorge scramble, dragon boat race, cook, clean, create crafts, ramble and conserve the environment.
The young people learned to be independent with a thirst for knowledge, new skills and travel.
The troop is now on the lookout for new scout leaders, with parents running a reduced programme of activities in the meantime.
Anyone interested in the role is invited to contact Nicki on 01837 840576 to have an informal chat. Full training and support will be given.
