OKEHAMPTON Young Farmers' Club has reported another successful year at its annual meeting on September 4.

Retiring chair Kathryn Allen said the club took part in many competitions, sports and social events.

The club's dung run raised £600 for charity, and members presented a cheque for £500 to Help for Heroes and £100 to the House of Rachel.

The club has also had a number of successes outside fundraising. Its tug of war team held a tournament in June, as well as supporting other tournaments across Devon.

Individual achievements included Sam Bullingham, who has been successful at sheep shearing competitions and in the Young Shepherd of the Year competition, and Alice Herrington swept the board with her flower arrangements in the Devon YFC floral art competition.

Officers elected: president Ruth Maile, club leader Sandra Heard, assistant club leader Fiona Yelland, chair Graham Francis, vice chair Giles Heard, join secretaries Lydia Francis and Alice Herrington, treasurer John Maile, and assistant treasurer Peter Folland.

New members are always welcome, and the club is holding a new members' night at Meldon Village Hall on Wednesday, September 25 from 8pm. All young people from ten to 26 are welcome, and the Devon YFC organiser Nick Crease will be there in person. For details on Okehampton YFC contact Graham Francis on 07799 482120.
