A SMALL handmade bed company in Okehampton has won contracts to create new luxury beds for celebrity chef Michael Caines, as well as ex-footballer turned Hollywood actor, Vinnie Jones.
Enchanted House Beds Ltd has been selected to create luxury beds for Lympstone Manor — a new hotel owned by Devon-born chef Michael Caines, former executive chef of the Gidleigh Hotel at Chagford, which will open in the spring.
Stuart Carr, owner of Enchanted House Beds, said: ‘’Winning the contract to make the beds for local celebrity chef Michael Caines’ new hotel was a huge achievement for us.
‘We have now started to produce the beds and I am having a guided tour of the hotel this Friday.
‘The hotel has 21 rooms, which doesn’t sound huge but these beds are truly some of the biggest most luxurious beds I have ever seen let alone produced. One mattress alone will take one of our guys three days to complete, start to finish, and will need a team of six to carry! Michael has also not only supported us with his order but has also introduced us to a number of his friends for beds which we are very grateful for.’
The company has also partnered up with ex-footballer Vinnie Jones to create and launch a high- end luxury brand of beds and carpets.
‘Vinnie has a brand called Deacon Jones Luxury carpets and has supplied celebrities such as Robbie Williams, Jose Mourinho and Jonathan Ross — to name a few,’ said Stuart.
‘After I heard Vinnie had been swapping the red carpet for carpet laying I decided to get in touch on the off-chance they had thoughts of launching luxury beds.
‘To my surprise Vinnie’s business partner Danny Deacon called me back the following Saturday and said it’s exactly what himself and Vinnie had been discussing and my contact came at exactly the right time.’
‘Danny travelled down to Okehampton within a few days to meet me and we got on great. He loved our product, and after speaking with Vinnie, decided it was the product for them.’
Stuart and his team will work with the celebrity’s company to produce The London collection and The LA collection. There has also been a photography day booked in London with Mr Jones and two beds made in Okehampton.
Enchanted House Beds, which has only been operating for two years, has achieved notable success. As well as its celebrity clients, the company has kitted out the new J D Wetherspoons in Okehampton with its beds and due to positive feedback from Wetherspoons’ customers the bed company has been asked to submit a quote for the chain’s national contract.
Enchanted House Beds has taken on four previous employees from Sprung Slumber, which was closed recently by Relyon.
The company hand crafts luxury natural mattresses and beds the traditional way using only the finest natural fillings.
It is the only UK bed manufacturer which has its own farm from which it sources wool. The locally grown wool is sent away to be washed and then returned to be hand teased into all luxury beds.
‘We have doubled in size over the last six months with further expansion planned due to high demand,’ said Stuart.
‘We have been in business two years, but only a year with a team in place. We did our first year with just one guy in the factory alone. So, our first main year has been crazy with signs of this only growing in 2017.’
