THE raucous singing of a youngster from Okehampton has won him a wonderful prize at the Rugby World Cup.

Cameron Keegan aged eleven and his father Stuart decided to visit a ‘Fanzone’ in Cardiff Arms Park ahead of the kick-off of the match between New Zealand and Georgia at the Millennium Stadium.

The fanzones bring rugby fans together to enjoy the build-up to matches and join in with the nationwide celebrations of rugby. Cardiff’s fanzone is the largest venue at which to watch matches in the city with a capacity of 10,000.

The pair soaked up the atmosphere ahead of the match and Cameron took to a karaoke machine on the top deck of the bus parked in the fanzone. He sang along to the English and Welsh national anthems before deciding to get off the bus and explore the rest of the fanzone.

As they got off the bus, Cameron was approached by a representative of Mastercard, one of the tournament’s sponsors. The representative had enjoyed Cameron’s singing and sense of fun so much that he awarded Cameron with a Mastercard ‘Priceless Prize’ — tickets to watch France versus Ireland at the Millennium Stadium and the opportunity to present the man of the match award to its recipient at the end of the match.

Cameron’s mum Jackie said: ‘Cameron was thrilled he got to go to another Rugby World Cup match and with VIP tickets. Cameron and Stuart travelled back up to Cardiff on the following Sunday. Cameron was a little nervous but extremely excited at the same time. He loves rugby and plays for Okehampton under 12s.

‘He thoroughly enjoyed himself and the whole experience.’

Cameron and Stuart enjoyed a thrilling match where the Irish triumphed over France 24-7. At the end of the match Cameron took to the pitch to present Irish flanker Sean O’Brien with the man of the match prize.
