REFURBISHMENT work at a local chapel is scheduled for completion this week.
St James' Chapel in Okehampton has had maintenance work taking place since mid-August. The clock tower has been the main point of focus, with the reinstatement of the traditional curfew bell, repairs to the clock faces, and the installation of an automatic clock re-start system, following power cuts.
Further external maintenance includes repairing and repainting rainwater goods and guttering. Internal work includes repairs to plaster work and redecoration, replacement of pew seating and repairs to furniture.
Contractors for the work include D J and M J Kelly Bros, Rob Davey, Dave Chapman, Brian Vernon and his team, and the Cumbria Clock Company.
The work has been made possible by funding from Okehampton United Charities, which has donated almost £10,000.
St James' Chapel will host a celebration service of evensong on Sunday October 16 from 6.30pm to celebrate and give thanks for the completion of the work. The newly installed curfew bell will be rung for the first time as a call to worship before the service. All are welcome to attend.
