Columbines 6
Truro Ladies 1
THE Saturday sunshine saw a good win for Okehampton ladies in their last league game of the season against Truro.
A determined Truro defence kept Okehampton ladies to a slim 2-1 advantage at half time despite constant pressure from the home forwards.
The Truro team were fast on the counter attack and kept the Okehampton defence under pressure leading to their goal. However, two fine solo runs from Jo Moppett finally found a way through the Truro team and provided the Columbine goals for the first half.
A change of tactics in the second half with defensive players Debbie Pritchard and Sandy Douglas, pushing further up field paid off for the Columbines. An impressive flick into the Truro goal by Jane Jones from a slick short corner routine saw the start of an improved performance.
Some excellent passing starting from defence and working through the midfield led to two more excellent goals from Jo Moppett.
A number of chances were created by the pace and skilful play of Lesley Gibson and Kim Davey and only exceptional play by the opposition goalkeeper kept them from scoring.
Okes' final goal came from Viv Weatherington who placed a well taken shot into the goal from a pass pulled back from the baseline by Jo Moppett.
This was a well earned victory for Columbines ending a successful season with the possibility of promotion to be confirmed.
