YOUNGSTERS cooked up a treat for the Central Devon MP and a number of special guests last Saturday at the Room 13 Cookery Awards.

Back in October, the Room 13 Youth Council paid a visit to Mel Stride MP to lobby about the funding cuts to youth services across the UK.

Mr Stride was so impressed with the group that he paid a return visit to Room 13 at the weekend to see directly the work done at the centre. Town councillor Christine Marsh and representatives from the Okehampton United Charity were also in attendance.

Senior youth support worker Paul Dobbie said: 'We had 36 young people in for the event, and everything went well.

'It gave the young people here an opportunity to show their MP the great work done here at Room 13, and they did us proud. The food was great, and it was great to celebrate some of the things going on here.'

Room 13 is a multi-agency youth venue on St James Street open to all young people aged 11 to 19 in the area. They have a range of facilities including music equipment and instruments, pool table, Nintendo Wii and garden area.
