Shebbear College again hosted the annual Youth Speaks competition and four teams from the college and three from Great Torrington School presented speeches on subjects as diverse as Surfing and Fair Trade.
All seven teams were praised by the judges for the high standard they produced, but it was a team from Torrington which ended Shebbear's three-year run of success with a speech about a children's cancer charity.
Shebbear's teams were: Form 1 — George Daniel (Surfing), Tom Cappleman-Lynes, Bailey Ward, Phoebe Willis-Butcher (Living in Shebbear), Katie Trask, Elizabeth Tennant.
Form 2 — Peggy Kirkwood (Are Women Equal to Men?), Megan Furse, Hannah Clarke, Ezmay Jopling (Fair Trade), India Martin, Ellen Chamberlain.
