Members of the newly-formed executive of the OkeRail Forum recently met with Devon county councillors at County Hall to discuss progress of plans to provide a year-round regular train service between Okehampton and Exeter.
Transport secretary Chris Grayling has charged train operator Great Western Railway (GWR) with drawing up a plan to introduce the new service. GWR expects to deliver the plan to the Government this spring.
At their meeting, the OkeRail Forum executive members and county councillors highlighted that GWR needs to put an attractive proposal to the transport secretary.
OkeRail chair Cllr Rev Mike Davies and vice chair Cllr Dr Michael Ireland talked about the lobbying they and other OkeRail members have done to promote the re-introduction of a regular train service, including speaking at a number of rail industry events.
