OVER the last few months I have visited most of the cafés, pubs and restaurants of Okehampton to discuss the campaign to achieve Fairtrade status for the town.

At first, approaching staff and owners and considering the difficulties facing business at present, I was afraid that they wouldn't spare the time to speak to me, but I was wrong.

I have been very encouraged by the response. Many people have shown interest in the issues and many wanted me to bring them a catalogue of goods and a list of wholesale suppliers. These are now available and I will be distributing them. I would like to thank all these people for their interest and enthusiasm.

We are currently compiling a directory, to show Fairtrade goods may be obtained in Okehampton. We would be grateful if anyone who serves/sells Fairtrade goods and has not yet had the fact recorded by one of the Fairtrade group members, would inform Jo Thompson on 01837 82537 or email: trust_snails@hotmail.

com Please note that the email address given in last week's Times contained a misprint.

I would like to thank all, including the newspaper who have given help or support and look forward to meeting you at the Edwardian Evening on December 3 where we shall be serving Fairtrade hot chocolate!
