OKEHAMPTON entertainer Rob Pudner had a wedding anniversary surprise for one local couple celebrating more than 60 years of marriage on Monday.
Okehampton octogenarians John and Vera Bray had absolutely no idea that Rob would be knocking on their door, having been nominated for a visit as a surprise by their three children Lizzie, Chrissie and Steve.
Rob, who is a family entertainer under the name of Entertainingly Different, presented them with a splendid bunch of flowers from Bev Halley of Halley’s Floral Design in Bridestowe.
He also entertained them with three old-time music hall songs and what he himself admitted was ‘a rather silly anniversary song’ which caused much amusement.
Passers-by and neighbours, too, stopped to watch.
Vera had celebrated her 82nd birthday just two days before what was the couple’s 61st wedding anniversary.
Vera wasn’t allowed to get married until she was 21, so the couple got married two days later!
Rob’s visit was one of a number he is paying to older people in the community, made possible with a grant from Okehampton Town Council, to cheer up older people who are still isolating with the lockdown.
Relatives and friends of anyone who might welcome a visit are invited to drop Rob a line via his Facebook page to let him know and he will make the arrangements.
Rob also visited residents at Castle Ham Lodge in the town to present residents with flowers and a bit of light-hearted musical fun.
