MAGICAL music is all set to descend on Okehampton as part of a unique event taking place throughout the West Country.
Okehampton Excelsior Silver Band will be giving a special performance in the bandstand in Simmons Park on Saturday, September 27 from 2pm until 4pm.
The event is part of the 2008 Bandstand Marathon, which will see fifty bands performing fifty concerts on fifty bandstands across the South West and marks the launch of the cultural Olympiad, an initiative to boost cultural and musical activities in the region.
The silver band has 22 players but currently has vacancies in all sections of the band from cornet to tuba.
They rehearse twice weekly and perform at carnivals, parades and other social events as well as holding concerts to help raise funds for a series of charities.
Their most recent concert in Okehampton's Charter Hall raised £350 for the Exeter Leukaemia Fund.
Upcoming performances from the band will include Okehampton and Hatherleigh carnivals with their popular Christmas concert set to take place on December 15 in the Charter Hall.
The band has also recently set up a junior training group where children aged 8 upwards are taught music and the art of playing a brass instrument.
Further information about the junior group is available from Dean Beardon on 07926585322 while further information about the band itself is available from their website http://www.okehamptonband.co.uk">www.okehamptonband.co.uk
