TWO Okehampton historians are holding an exhibition at the town's Conservative Club on Saturday, November 6, which promises to fascinate all those interested in the town's past.

The exhibition by Mike and Hilary Wreford starts at 7pm and admission is free.

Over the years they have compiled a large collection of photographs, memorabilia and old postcard views of many aspects of Okehampton iife — showing celebrations, notable events, traders, transport, sporting teams, familiar places and names and much more.

Both have now been asked to make some of this material available for the people of Okehampton to share and enjoy and hence the exhibition.

Mike said: 'Hilary and I have spent many years in Okehampton and have developed a keen interest in the town's past.

'There is a great deal of interest in the history of the towns and villages in the West Devon area, with history societies formed and books written.

'Tavistock is a good example where Gerry Woodcock has written a number of excellent books on the town.

'Okehampton is well served on historical matters, with the Museum of Dartmoor Life, the Okehampton and District History Society, and the more recent Okehampton District Amenity Group.

'There have also been books written by Roy and Ursula Radford, Alan Endacott and myself and my wife, Hilary.

'Everyone is welcome to come along and see for themselves an insight into Okehampton in times past.'
