MORE than £9,000 was raised at the 13th Okehampton and District Lions Club annual charity golf day last month.

The event, held on September 23, was in aid of Children's Hospice South West.

Almost 200 golfers competed for a prize fund of more than £3,000 and in first place was the team of A Cook, J Mansell, C Walsh and N Henderson, who won four green fees plus buggies and meals at St Mellion.

In second place was the team of C Greenberry, D Greenberry, R Slack and J Flaun, who won a round of golf for four at Bovey Castle.

Third prize of four green fees and meals at Woodbury Golf course was won by the team of

R Barkwell, J Barkwell, M Curtis and W Searle.

The special draw prize for players only of a two-day break at the Manor House Hotel and Golf Club at Castle Combe, Wiltshire, worth more than £1,000, donated by Andrew Finley of Ash Availability Systems Ltd was won by Bruce Pendrick, Ken Griffiths, Arnie Seale and D Tilly.

The Lions would again like to thank Okehampton Golf Club and its staff for helping set up the golf course and producing catering facilities, and to all the sponsors, programme advertisers, supporters and others who made the day a great success.
