IT has been a busy summer for members of Okehampton's Local History Society.

The society has embarked on a series of visits throughout the summer and were even due to spend the day on Lundy Island, but the atrocious weather got the better of them and gale force winds meant the visit was cancelled.

Usually, meetings take place on the second Wednesday of each month at 7.30pm in the Ockment Centre.

But September's meeting has been cancelled because the centre is currently closed for refurbishment. In October there will be a talk on 'One Hundred Years of Women in Horticulture and Agriculture'.

New members are always welcome. Anyone interested should contact secretary Malcolm Francis-Lang on 01837 840158. Non-members may attend meetings at a charge of £2 per person.
