THE circus could be coming to town after Okehampton Town Council last week received a request from two different operators.
The Circus Spectacular from Collaton St Mary, which is aimed at children and families with children, aims to take live entertainment to the towns and villages which do not normally have a circus visit.
The company had planned to come to Okehampton in the summer but had to pull out due to technical problems.
Circus Spectacular also intend to provide a number of workshops, where children can have a go at circus skills such as juggling, plate spinning, unicycle and tight wire walking.
Another request came from Paulo's Americano Circus from Romania. This features clowns, acrobats, highwire, springboard, fast track, magic, cloud swing and a wheel of death with artists from all over the world.
Town clerk Don Bent confirmed that negotiations with the two circuses are underway and it is hoped the town will have one show in spring 2009 and another some time in the summer.
He said: 'We have had a lot of compliments from people who want them to come back again.'
