Okehampton U16s 21

Topsham U15s 15

HAVING won the semi-final of the league play-offs Okehampton played Topsham away at Crediton in the Exeter University North Devon league final.

Oke pushed forward from the off and started to gain in possession and territory. Oke captain Josh Bush broke through from the Topsham 22 yard line and using his speed swerved past a few backs to cross the line under the posts. Liam Wilkins converted. Will Copp scored Oke's second try in very similar fashion to the first try. Again it was converted by Liam giving Oke a 14-0 lead at half time.

The second half saw Topsham come back scoring a try from an intercepted pass which was converted. Topsham added three more points from a penalty before they took the lead 15-14 with their second try.

But Okehampton came back with 15 minutes to go. A Topsham player was yellow carded for a high tackle on Josh. Oke struggled to take advantage of the extra man until seven minutes to go when instead of kicking for a penalty they decided to run the ball. They were held up a few times close to the line until Marcus Garratt threw himself over a pile of bodies to touch down; Liam converted.

This set up a nail biting final few minutes. Okehampton held fast though to win the game 21-15 and become North Devon champions.

All of the players played well and there were some outstanding performances from Jon Johnson, Will Copp and Dean Folland, Josh led the team well under pressure while Jake Barber had his game of the season.
