A CHARITY lunch in aid of a South West adoption charity has raised the staggering sum of £10,700.

The event at Gidleigh Park on Thursday November 18 was held in aid of the charity Families for Children, which helps place children for adoption in the South West.

Nearly 70 guests attended the event and enjoyed an inspirational talk from guest speaker Falklands war survivor Simon Weston, followed by a sumptuous lunch created by Gidleigh Park's double Michelin star chef Michael Caines MBE, who was adopted himself and keen to support a charity so close to his heart.

A lively auction also took place, with items including a Gibson 'Les Paul Junior' guitar as played by Keith Richards, and lunch with actress Hayley Mills.

Ally Coton, fundraising and publicity co-ordinator for Families for Children said: 'All the money raised will be used to support our adoptive families.

'Our adopters parent children who have come from abusive backgrounds and together we work to change these children's lives, giving them the tools to become responsible, loving adults.'

The lunch was organised by local businessman John Casson and sponsored by Brewin Dolphin and Private Cellar.
