Okehampton Squash Club have begun the second half of the season in the Devon Mixed Squash Leagues.
The two teams — in divisions four and five — enjoyed victories to strengthen their positions in the league tables.
Oke first team beat Torquay 5 away 3 -2, with four of the matches going down to the deciding game. String five Sean Jones narrowly lost 3-2, after some gruelling rallies while number four Phil Allin comfortably won 3-0. Phil Kemsley at string three played some tight shots to just come out on top 3-2. At string two Arnie Searle was unlucky to lose 3-2, in another closely fought contest.
The match was poised at 2-2 and was decided by the string one match. Oke's Clive Marais was 2-1 down and facing four match points against him at 14-10 but he mounted an incredible fight back to win the match, and therefore the fixture 3 – 2. The first team comfortably beat Sidmouth 4-1 to put the team 10 points clear at the top of the league. Paul Burrows playing at five lost 3- 1 while number four Phil Allin won his match 3-1; number three Phil Kemsley won 3-0 as did number two Arnie Searle and number one Clive Marais.
The third game for the first team was away at Plymouth University, where they were convincingly beaten 5-0 - the loss was the teams' first defeat of the season.
The club welcomes players of all abilities, with Wednesday being club night from 7pm. If anyone would like to play squash, or attend a club night session, then please contact club coach Clive Marais on 07825 701902.
