ORGANISERS of the Okehampton Show, the Okehampton and District Agricultural Association, held its annual general meeting on February 23 where Halwill farmer Jeff Endacott was elected as the new president.

The meeting was hosted by outgoing president Simon Whattler. A financial report was read out confirming that the Okehampton Show had a successful year with good attendance, proving how important good weather is for show day.

After many years in the role, John Hockridge stood down as chairman. He was praised by Mr Whattler on the admirable job he had done serving the show during that time.

Other new officers elected were: 2017 president elect, Ross Campbell; chairman, Mark Wooldridge; vice chairman, John Hockridge, cup secretary, Claire Woodward and show secretary Sally Bullingham.

Mr Endacott said: I am so pleased to have been elected as president. I’ve a long association with the show and it is a great honour.’

Okehampton and District Agricultural Association would also like to express that grants are available for students aged 16-22 studying agricultural/horticultural courses.

The association is also looking for somebody to take over the open section (cookery, handicraft etc.)
