The Queen lit the first of more than 900 beacons lit up across the UK and overseas as part of celebrations for her milestone birthday.
Okehampton Hamlets Parish Council lit their beacon at Blackdown behind Okehampton Camp and was visible from the town on a clear evening. Parish council chairman Derek Webber called it a ’momentous occasion’.
Exbourne embraced the occasion with a beacon, fireworks and barbecue in the village playing fields.
More than 100 people came to the lighting of the beacon in Lifton to see Roger Mounts of Lifton Farm Shop light their beacon.
