Okehampton 6

ECV Hornets D 2

WITH an extremely strong opposition Okehampton were rattled and the opening 20 minutes of the match was end to end.

It was the visitors who struck first — Oke keeper Andy Harvey saved well but the ball hit defender Mark Bingham on the line. The result was a penalty flick which was placed into the top corner past the unlucky keeper.

Shell shocked the home side struggled to get any kind of rhythm to their game at all and it was only the last ten minutes of the half where they finally started to battle back.

However Joff Stephens made a brilliant run and through ball to Mark Parsons, who took one touch and smashed in the equaliser.

The home side now bouyed by the goal and won several short corners in a row before Luke Miller drag flicked the ball beyond the goalkeeper to give them a lead at the break.

Hornets fought for everything and forced an excellent save from Harvey again before Parsons got the hosts a third from another short corner.

Chris Luxton went close as the home team piled on the pressure and it was just a matter of time before they killed the game off, when Parsons, from a short corner, flicked the ball over the keeper.

Okehampton started to control the game and their five man midfield dominated possession, but it was defender James Speak who set up the fifth. An excellent through ball found Parsons whose shot found its way into the bottom corner.

The visitors did manage to get a second when a ball smashed into the area was diverted into the goal by the centre forward.

Okehampton responded with the best move of the game to score their sixth — Simon Bourne with an excellent run down the right crossed for the ball to be slotted home by man of the match Parsons.

Miller went close again before midfielder Nick Luxton forced a fine save from the away keeper.

With their 100 per cent record intact it is a fantastic first half of the season for Okehampton who continue to lead the league and maintain their unbeaten record.
