A STUDENT from Okehampton has been recognised by City College Plymouth at their Student of the Term awards.

Alex Lewington, aged 17, is an engineering operations apprentice with Premier Foods in Lifton. He started his course at City College when his employer selected the college as their training provider.

Justine Focone, human resources manager with Premier Foods, said: ’We are very pleased that Alex has made such a fantastic start to his apprenticeship with City College. Since Alex started with us in August 2015, he has shown his eagerness and commitment to learn and develop, and it is great that this has continued into his college work.

’We are very proud of his achievements so far and look forward to seeing him continue to do well. It is particularity pleasing for us as this is the first year of our partnership with City College in relation to our apprenticeship programme.’

The Student of the Term scheme recognises and rewards students who are making a positive contribution to their course, the College or the local community - over and above what is expected. There is an overall winner for each of the College’s curriculum areas, and these are all put forward for three further, special awards: the Principal’s Award, the Governors’ Award and the Students’ Union Award.

Alex said: ’I want to do well and it’s easier when you like the job you’re doing. It was really good to have my work recognised.’
