AN Okehampton shopkeeper is feeling the cold a little more after bravely having her hair shaved off to raise funds for an Exeter-based cancer charity.

Jade Oliver-Deacon, who runs The Toy Shop in Red Lion Yard, had all her hair shaved off in the bar of The White Hart in Bridestowe on Saturday night.

Overall, she has raised more than £2,000 for FORCE cancer charity, which included £220 on the night.

She opted to raise funds for the charity because it is currently treating her mum, who has pancreatic cancer.

‘The atmosphere in the pub was great and I was really touched by the number of people who came out to support me,’ she said.

‘It was quite an emotional night, particularly for those people who have been affected by cancer, but I have done this to raise more awareness about this awful disease and to raise funds for FORCE cancer charity in the three and a half years leading up to the event.

‘I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has donated and supported me. Without people’s generosity the event wouldn’t have been nearly as successful as it has been.

‘I am getting used to my new look and like it – although it is a bit drafty on top of my head now.’
