MEADOWLANDS leisure centre in Tavistock and Parklands leisure centres in Okehampton are set to reopen their doors to the public next month, West Devon Borough Council has revealed.

The two centres reopened briefly last year after Covid-19 restrictions were lifted, then closed again when the country’s third lockdown came into force.

The borough council, in a statement today (Thursday, March 25), said outdoor group exercise classes will restart at Meadowlands on Monday (29).

Fusion Lifestyle, which runs the two West Devon centres for the borough council, plan a phased reopening on April 12, which will see swim schools, gyms and swimming for individual and family exercise restart.

Fusion hopes to be able to reopen indoor groups exercise, sports halls and other activities in May, as stated in the Government’s roadmap to recovery. West Devon borough councillors will discuss a plan to sign over more £85,000 in Government aid to Meadowlands to Fusion on Tuesday.

The Government announced a £100 million fund in support of the recovery of publicly-owned leisure centres. Out of this fund, the borough council has been awarded £85,493 .
