THE plight of Jean Valjean will be brought to life by students at Okehampton College in February, with a whole school production of the classic musical 'Les Miserables'.

Students from all year groups will be performing in the college's school edition version of the production, and have been hard at work in rehearsal. This production has been abridged to a running time of just more than two hours, while carefully maintaining the integrity of the original musical.

The epic story recounts the struggle against adversity in 19th century France. Imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread, petty thief Jean Valjean is released from his 19-year term and not only becomes an honest man but the mayor of a prosperous town and a loving adoptive father — violating his parole in the process.

The relentless Inspector Javert, who makes a decent life for Valjean impossible, consequently pursues him.

Performances run in the college's Octagon Theatre from February 3 to February 7 at 7pm each evening.
