SUCCESS continues to come thick and fast for Okehampton's sharpest shooter.
With the 2012 London Olympics now firmly in her sights, former Okehampton College student Georgina 'Gorgs' Geikie continues to go from strength to strength.
Competing at the National Shooting Centre in Bisley recently, Gorgs stormed to victory in the Ladies' Sport Pistol Championship during Bisley's National Pistol meeting.
Gorgs won the same title last year and was delighted to retain the trophy.
Speaking to the Times from Heathrow Airport, where she was waiting to fly to Switzerland for a week's intensive training, she said: 'I'm over the moon to win again. I won it last year but my score was better this year which shows I'm improving — retaining the title was great.'
Gorgs also recently won the Devon Championships held in Okehampton and competed for the county in a countrywide 'postal' competition.
Her latest achievements are more steps forward towards her dream of winning a medal at the 2012 Olympics.
Helping support Gorgs in her bid to realise that dream is Okehampton Rotary Club which has presented her with a special shooting jersey, in which she has been competing, complete with the club's logo.
Gorgs added: 'I was proud to wear the Rotary top. Not only did it fit perfectly, it was perfect for the climate and, even better, I think it brought me luck.
'Huge thanks go to the Rotary Club and I hope they can carry on their support.'
Just a few days before competing in the national championships, Gorgs was a guest at the Rotary meeting where she spoke of her Olympic dream and showed the club her bronze medal from the Commonwealth Games in Melbourne.
Allenton Fisher, club president, said: 'The club are proud supporters of young local sports people and are very proud of Gorgs' achievements so far.
'We wish her all the best for the future and will all follow her progress with interest and a promise of our continued support.'
