AT a recent training session Okehampton Running Club presented  the North Dartmoor Search and Rescue Group Team (NDSRT) with a cheque for £300 — the proceeds from a ceilidh organised by club members Ali Holliday, Cathy Carey and Mervyn Rice.

NDSRT have helped the club for several years by providing volunteers at races which take place on the open moor. This year the presence of the NDSRT was especially reassuring to the club's marshals when weather conditions deteriorated later in the race.

NRSRT are working to raise £197,000 to purchase and equip a new operations centre for the north moor area, providing garaging, storage and cleaning facilities for equipment. These on call volunteers give up their time to attend rigorous training to prepare them for  an evolving role to support not only people on Dartmoor but also those in the communities which surround the moor.
