AN optician in Okehampton has helped pupils stay safe at night by donating high visibility vests to Okehampton Primary School.
Specsavers gave 100 vests to children at Okehampton Primary School to promote safety at night during Road Safety Week, an initiative by the charity Brake.
Head teacher at the school, Hazel Fox, said: 'We're very grateful for these vests, they will be put to good use.
'The safety of our pupils is one of our top priorities.
'These vests will allow the children to walk safely in the dark, as well as be visible to cars on outings and school trips.'
Specsavers store director, Kath Dandy, said: 'We want to make sure that children are safe and visible at night as winter is fast approaching.
'Since the clocks have changed and nights have got darker, we hope our donation will help keep parents' minds at ease when their children are walking back fromschool.'
Brake is a national road safety charity which exists to prevent deaths and injuries which happen on roads on a daily basis, through campaigns and other funding.
The charity also promotes safe and sustainable road use and effective road safety policies.
