THE team behind a parish plan uniting Bridestowe and Sourton will be at Bridestowe's ram roast event this weekend to talk to parishioners about the plan.

The parish councils of both villages have united to create a joint parish plan, now known as BSF — Bridestowe and Sourton Futures.

The plan is being formulated through public consultation, in an effort to involve the entire community of both villages.

The plan aims to identify what is good about parish life, and to look at the needs and aspirations for the future of villagers in Bridestowe and Sourton. The plan will then set out the vision of how to achieve these desired improvements for the years ahead.

The plan will represent views and opinions on economic, recreational, environmental and development issues.

As well as holding public consultation, like the appearance at the Bridestowe ram roast, the team behind the project has a questionnaire to be circulated to houses in both parishes. Funding for the project has been provided by Devon County Council, West Devon Borough Council and both parish councils.

Julia Turney, chair of BSF, said: 'I am excited to be involved with something that will let us have more control over our future.

'Change in planning regulations seems to have made communities more vulnerable, so it makes sense to do this now. It's about having our say and controlling and protecting our parishes more.'

The ram roast takes place on Bridestowe sporting green from 1.30pm, and at Sourton on September 12.
