OKEHAMPTON Town Council has announced that its precept for the next financial year will only see a slight increase on the previous year.

The budget set by the council for 2009/10 is £205,201 compared with £205,179 for 2008/9.

Don Bent, the town clerk, said: 'When setting the precept we have to be realistic in the present economic climate; it is not an easy juggling exercise.

'The council feels this is a realistic precept reflecting its responsibilities for the town.'

The town council precept forms part of the overall council tax bill for households. The main section goes to Devon County Council for its services, with West Devon Borough Council and the Police making up the remainder.
