PEOPLE in Okehampton who need support on any of a wide range of issues can now turn to the Ockment Centre for a weekly support 'hub' session.
The 'Friday Hub' aims to bring together a range of support and advice sessions each Friday morning to help people on a number of issues, from housing and employment to addiction or general advice. The first session runs on Friday, December 5 from 10am.
Jenny Hopkins, a member of the Ockment Centre team, said: 'We have been working on building up a hub on Friday mornings where people can drop in to get support and advice on such issues as searching for work, housing, benefits, addiction and other issues.
'We already have the work club running every Friday, and now we are working in partnership with Rise recovery, Sanctuary Supported Living, Advice West Devon and the probation service to bring together all these services in one place so that people can easily connect with different organisations that can help them.
'There will be free tea and coffee on December 5 for people to find out what it's all about and have a chat with any of the organisations that are there.'
A staple of the Ockment Centre, the work club continues to provide much needed support for people getting back into work.
As well as helping people write CVs, the club also helps people search and apply for jobs online, rebuild their confidence through improving interview and telephone techniques, socialising and moral support.
Sanctuary Supported Living will hold a drop-in clinic for those in housing need. They will cover benefits, correspondence and signposting to services to prevent homelessness.
Rise Recovery works with anyone affected by drugs and alcohol, be it individuals, their partners or their family members.
Advice West Devon provides access to information or a referral to the CAB. Whatever the problem, Advice West Devon aims to help.
Sanctuary Supported Living, Advice West Devon and Rise Recovery will run their sessions from 10am to 1pm.
The work club will run sessions from 10am to 1pm and 1.30pm to 4pm.
