MAY I respectfully suggest through your columns that Okehampton Town Council and our county councillors would be better engaged sorting out how to get out of Okehampton rather than Destination Okehampton. The town is in an almost permanent state of gridlock trying to exit the Waitrose car park. It can take up to 20 minutes to reach the traffic lights, so much so that we and many people living west of Okehampton now shop in Tavistock and Launceston as you drive in and out of the supermarkets there with no queuing, even at busy times, and I am told people living to the east now go to Exeter or Crediton for the same reasons. Surely it cannot be beyond our councillors to at least try and solve this problem before encouraging a rail link that will probably stop occasionally at Okehampton and never at all the little stations it did in the past. I am sure the Granite Way draws more people to Okehampton than ever the railway would and that cannot co-exist with an express railway. John Leonard Bridestowe Okehampton
