ON Tuesday week I attended the opening of
Okehampton's new ambulance station. This is a wonderful
new asset of which the town should be very proud.
The South Western Ambulance Service has one of the
best records in the country in terms of reaching the most
vital (so called A8 emergencies) within the target time.
Whilst technology is playing its part by ensuring that
ambulances are stationed close to where they are most
likely to be needed and in despatching them immediately
a call is received, it is inevitably the dedication and care of
those in the font line that matters most.
My thanks to all at the new station who showed me
around and made me feel so welcome. This is a truly
impressive operation backed up by some very special
people.
