I HAVE just (June 30) returned to Kent from my first visit to Okehampton and would like to tell you how delightful I found your town.
Staying at the White Hart, I was able to appreciate the way in which the oldest parts of the town nuzzle into the folds of the valley. While this may mean that half the walking is uphill it was easy to quickly get out into the tranquillity of the countryside.
Indeed, the only downside that I came across was a group of about half a dozen youngsters who gathered, chatting in Red Lion Yard on Saturday night and whose loud voices were still going at three on Sunday morning.
It was difficult to see how old they were but, judging by the shrill screech of the girl in the group, I would guess that they were about thirteen. I must say that it concerns me that the mums and dads of such young children would allow them out until so early in the morning.
Putting that incident aside though, the weekend was a delight and I congratulate you on your town.
