THIS year has seen the tenth wettest July in Okehampton since 1870, with the rainfall for the month more than twice the average.

This year was even wetter than last year's July and was the wettest since 1952, but the rains were concentrated early and late in the month, with a fair amount of dry but not particularly warm or sunny weather in between.

After a fine start on July 1, rain set in during the afternoon, heralding an exceptionally wet spell which lasted to July 11. From July 4 to 9, 104.1mm of rain fell, with July 9 being a particularly miserable day with 26.3mm falling between 8.30am and 6pm.

A cool westerly spell followed with some showers, the flow veering northwesterly on the July 19 and it became dry. Temperatures began to rise after the July 21 with the temperature exceeding 20 degrees C for the first time in the month on July 22.

A warm day on July 23 was followed by another on July 27, which was also quite humid and was the warmest in Okehampton since July 2006.

The end of the month was dark, wet and miserable. The mean temperature for the month was close to normal but rainfall was 219% of the average.
