THE OCRA West Devon Primary Schools’ Sportshall Athletics championships took place at Tavistock College.
The top six teams from the Okehampton area and the top six from the Tavistock area met to decide who would be the West Devon champions and go through to the county finals at The Life Centre, Plymouth today (February 2).
The girls’ competition was tight between St Peter’s, St Andrew’s and Okehampton A with Ruth Perry of St Andrew’s winning the standing long jump, with an enormous jump of 2.10 metres, closely followed by St Peter’s twins Charlotte (2.08m) and Hannah (2.02m). Ruth and Hannah also came first equal in the speed bounce (53 in 20 seconds) with Charlotte third (51). Alisha Overton of St Andrew’s won the chest push (6.5) with Reegan and Sophie of Okehampton A coming second equal (6.25). Sophie then won the vertical jump (51 centimetres), Ruth was second (49cm) and Aiya Zalwski, also St Andrew’s, coming third (45cm).

Obstacle race, 1, Okehampton, 2, St Peter’s, 3, St Andrew’s. Overall girls’ results. 1, St Peter’s with 130 points; 2, Okehampton with 129; 3, St Andrew’s with 128; 4, Whitchurch girls were with 105; 5, Bere Alston with 102. The top boys’ places were between Whitchurch, St Andrew’s and Okehampton A.
Finn Jordan of St Andrew’s was first equal with Nicolas Maczugowski in the standing long jump with a jump of 1.96m. Rhys Cunningham of Horrabridge was third on 1.94m. William White of Whitchurch won the speed bounce (54 in 20 seconds); Grady from Okehampton A and Finn were second equal (53). The chest push was won by Joe Summers of Horrabridge, (6.25m) with Freddy Bibby-Jones (Bridestowe), Liam Sutton (South Tawton), Reuben Pascoe and Matthew Jenkins (Whitchurch) coming second equal (6m).
Okehampton picked up first and second in the vertical jump with Thomas (46) and Grady (43); Reuben also jumped 43 to gain second equal.

As only one team can go through to the county finals there will be a tie-break decider between St Andrew’s and Okehampton A.
