THE Treggy 7 at Launceston — race 12 in the Cornish Road Running Grand Prix Series — was a hotly contested one. The course record was broken with a popular win by Dan Rogers, the first member of the host club, Launceston Road Runners, ever to win the event.
Four members from Okehampton Running Club took their place at the start among the field of mainly Cornish runners. Roger Voaden put in a great effort averaging six minute miles throughout to lead the way for ORC. He won the prize for third placed MV45 with his time of 43 minutes 02 seconds. Paul Carter completed in 45.29, Andy Vernon 46.42 and Marilyn Cooper was second FV55 in 58.16.
At the Devon Tarka Run Challenge, Detlef Shoenfeld and Melanie McVean from ORC were among those ran the ten miles from Bideford to Barnstaple. Detlef raised more than £135 for North Devon Hospice who ran the event.
The final race of the ORC's summer series was the Sourton Tors Race – a short but challenging one with a 900 foot climb starting at the Bearslake Inn. On a beautiful summer evening the moors were at their best. There was a good turn out from ORC along with runners from as far away as Truro.
The first three places were taken by ORC with Harrison Baker the overall winner in a time of 21.31, Rob Kelly was second in 21.42 and Adrian Kettle third in 21.46. Local fell runner Bonny Collingbourn won the ladies race in 22.57, Karen Skye for ORC came second in 23.41 and third was Lucy Skye of ORC in 26.21.
Other ORC times: Mike Baker 24.46, Jean-Paul Quertier 26.43, Mike Steward 27.11, Marilyn Cooper 28.51, Heather Richards, Karen Vallance 30.45, Jo Daniel 31.50, Claire Kelly 31.58, Jo-Anne Fletcher 33.51, Ali Holliday, Claire Cornwall 36.53
ORC is grateful to Simpkins Edwards for the sponsorship of the four races, North Dartmoor Search and Rescue team for their support, Bearslake Inn, race director Paul Crease, club chairman Ali Holliday, and to all the members who have helped in many ways throughout the series.
The club meet every Tuesday and Thursday 6.15pm for a 6.30pm start at the rugby club. Runners of all abilities are welcome. A six week course for beginners starts today. See its website for details http://www.okehamptonrunningclub.com">www.okehamptonrunningclub.com
