Okehampton 27

Cullompton 12

It was a lethargic opening to the match from the Okes, as they fell off several early tackles and allowed the visitors to build momentum. It therefore came as no real shock when Cullompton scored through Marcus Busche in the bottom left corner to put the visitors 5-0 up.

The Okes slowly began to improve and gain a foothold in the match and skipper Tom Powell kicked over to reduce the arrears and allow home confidence to build.

With Cullompton slightly on top the ball was turned and full back Gareth Espin took advantage from beneath his own posts, taking it deep into opposition territory, before releasing right winger Luke Honeychurch to score. Powell duly converted as Oke led 10-5 at the break.

Oke began the second period with renewed verve and vigour and five minutes in scrum half Joey Bruce fed full back Espin, who passed stand-off Tom Fogerty, who unselfishly fed Rory Honeychurch to cross the line.

Despite now playing into an ever increasing headwind, the Okes pack were grinding the visitors slowly into submission. A pushover try from hooker Chris Knott and a Tom Powell conversion saw Oke 22-5.

A further push over try, this time from Tom McGratton secured the bonus points.
