Devon Merit one

Okehampton seconds 29

Cullompton seconds 27

OKEHAMPTON seconds showed great grit and determination to make a stupendous comeback against a battling Cullompton team.

It was the visitors who dominated the first half and by the half-time whistle the home team found themselves an unhealthy 21-0 points in deficit.

However, the second half was a different story and Okehampton dug in and produced a much improved performance to keep the pressure on their mid Devon opponents. With just a minute to go the home team had fought back defiantly with tries by Gary Sizmur, Dan Fogerty, Gareth Espin and Sam Turner, with the remaining points from conversions and penalties kicked by Gary Sizmur. Despite this great effort, it still looked if Cullompton were going to leave with the spoils as they led 27-26.

However, just to the left of the Cullompton posts they visitors gave away a vital penalty. With the last kick of the match Oke’s Gary Sizmur coolly slotted home to give the home team victory by 29-27.

As Dave Potter, the club secretary, told the Times:?‘In the second half the team showed their strength and why they are deservedly on top of the table.
