Tavistock 9

THERE was a cold start to the morning with an away game at Tavistock.

Archie P was appointed captain and directed his team well. Gameplay started fast and Tavistock soon proved a strong side, although Okehampton kept a strong defensive line and pushed hard.

Dylan and Myles were quick to put the pressure on when a joint tackle put the Tavistock player out of touch to gain possession of the ball for Oke.

Charlie was not phased by this and put in some strong committed tackles time and time again. Ben increased the pressure and held his nerve when he steamed through Tavi’s defensive line to secure the first try. A confident run from Archie D helped the Oke team push up the pitch several times to gain further up towards our try line.

Some great passing between all the Oke players was very impressive to watch. Dylan powered on to add to the scores. Fred provided some fantastic support throughout the match and made a confident tackle to bring the Tavi player to the ground.

A flying tackle from Myles kept Tavistock from scoring. Tavistock were playing a six tackle rule which meant every tackle counted as after six tackles on either side it was a turn over ball. Archie P made a last minute dash to Oke’s try line to leave the score 4-3 to Tavistock at half time.

Harry made a strong run at the re-start but Tavistock maintained their strong defensive line to halt Oke’s progress. Despite this, Oke persisted and kept up the team work, with the Tavistock referee even commenting on Okehampton’s good offloading.

Joseph showed courage in tackling, and Luke found a great turn of speed but not quite the space, getting squeezed into touch. Tavistock continued to push forward and scored several tries, despite Okehampton’s best efforts.

Charlie offloaded well to Harry who made some good ground for Okehampton. Grace finally broke through to score the Okehampton try. Corey made some determined tackles against the bigger Tavistock team. The committed team work paid off with Charlie adding to the scoreline for Okehampton.

Despite the final score line of 9-3 to Tavi. Okehampton showed their commitment and strength and will take away a lot from the match.

A last quick 15 min game saw the sides draw 3-3, with tries from Archie P 1, Charlie 1, Grace 1.

Okehampton U11 11

SUPER Saturday quickly turned into Sunny Sunday for Okehampton under 11s playing away to Tavistock.

In true under 11s style, the first quarter started with five minutes of halfway deadlock with both teams equally matched.

Both sides put in strong displays, with both Tavistock and Okehampton’s players showing great skill in defence and attacking with the ball.

The sides exchanged tries for most of the game and going into the final quarter the scores were close, before Tavistock managed to eke out an advantage in the final throes of the game.
