SAM Priday from Okehampton College has been selected to represent Devon Schools in the South West Schools’ Cross Country championships.

The 13 year-old will run for his county at Stover School, near Newton Abbot, on Saturday (February 3).

He qualified when he came ninth in the Devon Schools’ junior boys championships, representing East Devon — running the 3.6 kilometres in a time of 14 minutes 30 seconds.

Back in 1982 Sam’s mum, Melanie, as a youngster, also came ninth, when she ran in the Exeter and district cross country championships junior girls’ event – competing against runners two years older.

Those competing for Devon, with Sam at the Devon Schools SWCCC, will be Euan Botham of Mount Kelly and William Russell and Joe Dix of Tavistock College.
