A RAPIST has been jailed after his quick-witted victim used her mobile phone to record his violent attack on her.

Prezemyslaw Sokolowski dragged the woman into her own home from her garden and carried out a sustained attack, pulling her back into her living room when she tried to flee upstairs. The victim switched on her mobile phone and used it to make an audio recording of the final attack, in which she was raped.

Sokolowski initially denied the rape but admitted it all when he was played the recording by police, Exeter Crown Court was told.

He was condemned as warped and told he had caused serious psychological damage to the victim as he was jailed for six years by Judge David Evans.

He told him: ‘You admitted what you had done in the face of overwhelming evidence. You only did so in your second interview after you were confronted with the audio recording.

‘The victim’s personal statement makes clear the huge impact that your behaviour has had on her and doubtless will have in the future. You showed ugly persistence. There is evidence from the transcript from the audio recording from her mobile phone. It shows your warped thinking.’

Sokolowski, aged 34, of Southcott near Okehampton, admitted rape and attempted rape. He was jailed for six years and put on the sex offender’s register for life.

Miss Rachel Drake, prosecuting, said the attack took place in June when Sokolowski went to the victim’s home and dragged her from the garden into the living room.

Miss Ann Bellchambers, defending, said the offence was out of character and Sokolowski had never been in trouble before in either Britain or Poland.
