AN EXHIBITION of unique work by an Okehampton artist launches this week at the Museum of Dartmoor Life.
Vincent Blackwell is exhibiting a series of paintings alongside some abstract photography in the museum's John Young Gallery from today (Thursday). The exhibition promises a series of unique paintings taking influences from a number of genres, including surrealism, abstractionism, 3D mixed media and much more. It will be the second time Vincent has held a solo exhibition of his work.
The exhibition, entitled Moorland Abstractions, has many pieces inspired by the dramatic landscapes of Dartmoor, but there are also many works based on sites around Devon, Cornwall and further afield. Many of the pieces are also inspired by Celtic and Norse mythology.
The exhibition is part of an effort by the museum to encourage exhibitors, including artists and photographers, to use the museum's gallery to show off their work.
Vincent said: 'It is a great looking space in here, and it is exciting to be showing off my work locally and in the community.'
Andrew Thompson, museum manager, said: We are really pleased to be housing Vincent's work.
'It is a really different kind of work to what we have exhibited here earlier in the year, in terms of the media used, the themes, the mythological inspiration, and is something very different for us.'
The exhibition runs until October 1 in the museum's John Young Gallery. For more information on the museum call 01837 52295.
