AFTER recent torrential weather, a bridge in Okehampton was severely damaged and has been closed until further notice.

Jubilee Bridge in Simmons Park was tarnished during heavy rain fall last week and, after a sewer pipe broke, the scaffolding beneath the bridge collapsed.

The bridge has been temporarily closed while its structure is being assessed by South West Water, which maintains the pipe work.

A spokesperson from Okehampton Town Council’s parks committee said: ‘The extreme weather we had has caused significant damage to the bridge. It will remain closed while its structure is being assessed and until it is deemed safe.’
