THE Ockment Centre in Okehampton has a new colourful bench following the work of local volunteers.

Ockment Centre manager, Carol Ward, said: ‘We bought a wreck of a bench for £5 from the dump with rotten timber and covered in patina.

‘In a matter of hours two of our volunteers, Martin and Phil, had cut and replaced the old timbers and secured with new nuts and bolts to make a smashing bench. 

‘With a dab of bright paint it’s been transformed into a work of art.’

The Ockment Centre is keen to receive any unwanted garden furniture from local residents.

Carol said: ‘If anyone has any unwanted garden furniture that we can upcycle we would be very grateful. Contact us on 01837 53276.’
