AN open day is being held for anyone who wishes to find out more about the major redevelopment of the Castle Hospital site in Okehampton.
The day aims to show how the former Castle Hospital is being redeveloped to provide a new extra care housing scheme, with 50 purpose-built flats and additional facilities for the community.
The new scheme, which will be called Castle Ham Lodge, will provide on-site care and support services 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
A care and support team will respond to planned and responsive care and support needs, which will allow people to receive as much or as little care as they need.
The day will be opened by the mayor of Okehampton Kay Bickley and will offer people the chance to find out more information on the redevelopment.
There will be speeches by representatives from Devon County Council and the Guinness Partnership, who are developing the site. There will also be a number of other professionals and organisations exhibiting and providing information on the day.
These include Reablement, social workers, occupational therapists, Adult Community Services, West Devon Borough Council and Care Direct Plus.
The extra care development will provide residents with greater independence, enabling them to live in self-contained flats, and continue to look after themselves.
Everyone is welcome to attend the open day, which will be held today (Thursday) between noon and 3pm in the Charter Hall.
