Devon and Exeter three

Tedburn St Mary 2

SOUTH Zeal started well on Saturday and took the lead after 15 minutes. Darren Gilbert took a short corner to Redd Cann who from fully 20 yards out hit a great shot into the top left hand corner of the Tedburn net.

The home side were threatening the visitors' defence time after time and a move down the right involving Scott Hooper and Daniel Gibbs saw a shot from Phil Evans parried by the Tedburn keeper but Dan Wakeham was on hand to score from close range to put Zeal two up.

Tedburn played some good football and reduced the deficit on the half hour when a cross from the left found one of their strikers who finished well from close range.

South Zeal finished the first half strongly and Harley Cann put them 3-1 up when he received a pass from Daniel Gibbs on the edge of the area and beat two defenders before chipping the oncoming keeper and just before half time he scored his second.

Tedburn started the better in the second period and reduced the deficit to 4-2 when a cross from the right found an unmarked player who finished well from the edge of the goal area.

Although dangerous at times Tedburn could not break through again and the home side could have won by more as several chances from close range just failed to find the target.

South Zeal play at home to Winkleigh on Saturday, December 10.
