Witheridge 2

Chagford 3

CHAGFORD recorded their second consecutive league win and, in doing so, inflicted a first defeat on their Mid-Devon hosts.

The visitors started well and within minutes Steve Scott had diverted home the opening goal. This gave Chagford additional impetus and they were able to play some free flowing football, as they had the previous week.

There was little surprise when they extended their lead through an Andrew Davis penalty.

With Williams marshalling the back line superbly, there appeared to be little threat from Witheridge and Mortimer made good use of his move to the right of defence, allowing Davis a freer role in midfield. Although Scott is not yet fully mobile, the forward partnership with Kinsey is paying dividends at the front.

Witheridge made a better contest of it in the second half reining in Chagford with two goals of their own, the second from the penalty spot when Gavillet was adjudged to have fouled his man.

A draw looked on the cards when Jon Scarry came on for Scott and soon had to be replaced by Hutchison. With time running out, Chagford were awarded their second penalty and Davis stepped up to secure three valuable points.

Chagford Reserves 1

Hatherleigh Town Reserves 2

ONCE again Chagford reserves lost a match in the first half and gifted their opponents soft goals.

Chagford opened brightly enough, took the game to their visitors and played decent football.

Harvey, Philpott and Haxton worked well in midfield so it was disappointing when the team found themselves two down within 20 minutes and Haxton had to depart injured. Both goals were similar to each other in that mistakes were well punished. For the first Vincent, in the home goal, blocked a low shot with his foot but Chris Raymont was quick to slam the ball home in the same corner.

Five minutes later, a firm cross was spilled and Graham Davies snapped up his chance. Chagford recovered quickly and Turner, in Hatherleigh's goal saved well from Ralph's strong header and then collected a couple of good crosses when under pressure.

Vincent redeemed himself in pushing a crisp shot onto his bar and reacting quickly to gather the rebound.

The second half belonged almost entirely to Chagford as they pressed for an equaliser. Their only reward came when Jerome Whatley hammered in a fine goal from the angle of the penalty-box. Further chances were made but Hatherleigh defended strongly but only a scuffed attempt, at the death from Ralph, saw them through to the end.
