AN OKEHAMPTON family whose daughter suffers from Leukaemia, will hold a fun-filled golf day in aid of charity this summer.
In January 2009, 12 year old Bea Holman-Brooks was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukaemia and spent three weeks in the Bristol Children's Hospital.
She was then transferred to the care of the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, where she has continued her treatment.
The charity golf day will help raise money for Clic Sargent, who have offered continuous support to Bea and her family.
Bea's mother, Helen Holman, said her treatment will continue until the end of April 2011.
She said: 'The chemotherapy and medicines that she is on regularly cause many side effects, from lack of sleep to bad mood swings and generally feeling poorly.
'We only moved to Okehampton in May 2009, but the warm welcome that we have received from the people around the town has been brilliant, which has been a great comfort to us as a family.'
Bea, who moved schools in September, joined Year 8 at Okehampton College where she sees her new friends when she is feeling well enough to attend.
Mrs Holman added: 'Throughout our experience with Leukaemia, Clic Sargent have been there to help and support us — from providing the nurses who care for Bea in hospital, to the nurses who come to see Bea at home and the social worker who helps and supports us as a family.
'Clic Sargent have arranged days out for families like ours, which we have benefited from, enabling us to meet other families with children with the same illness.'
In February last year, the family set up an 'Especially for You' fund with Clic Sargent to enable them to continue supporting families with children who have cancer and Leukaemia.
The charity golf day will be held on Friday, July 2 at Okehampton Golf Club.
The family is looking for event sponsors, hole sponsors, raffle prizes and teams to take part and all proceeds will go to Clic Sargent.
